Floodplain Forest Fridays
Floodplain Forest Fridays at Van Cortlandt Park
Join us along Turtle Creek, the stream feeding the mill pond from the northwest, to plant native trees from NYC Parks in the floodplain and cut back invasive phragmites by hand. Your work helps the floodplain forest take back ground from the reeds.
When: Fridays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Nov 13, Nov 20, Dec 4, Dec 11, Dec 18
Where: Meet outside the VCPA offices at the Golf House, next to the bathrooms. We leave for the worksite by 9:15 AM.
What to bring: Long sleeves, long pants, boots that can get muddy, warm layers, water bottle.
Tools and gloves provided. Ages 15+ welcome (minors need signed waiver: https://vancortlandt.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/VCPA_Waiver_Form_2019.pdf)
