Current Capital Projects

NYC Parks implements Capital Projects in Van Cortlandt Park which may result in temporary closures throughout the Park:

• Classic Playground Adult Fitness: Installation of adult fitness equipment and resurfacing of basketball court. Playground will remain open but the basketball court is closed during construction. Estimated reopening date is fall of 2024.
• Woodlawn Playground Restroom: Construction will begin at the end of July 2024.
• Woodlawn Playground: This project is in the procurement stage. 
• Shandler Road and Parking Lot: DEP project is underway through 2024. Both Shandler Road and the Parking Lot are closed until further notice.

A huge thank you to the hundreds of people who helped with the creation of this comprehensive plan for the park. It was a two-year process and well worth the efforts of all to compile ideas for the park’s future.

Elected officials have already responded and are starting to fund the projects in this plan. This is a great start in achieving the goals of this plan over the next 20 years!
