Start 2026 with intention, tranquility, and community.

Join us for the 3rd Annual Hatsuhinode—the Japanese tradition of welcoming the first sunrise of the year—on a peaceful hike through the winter landscape of Van Cortlandt Park.

Led by Yoshiko Mori and Noel Hefele, this event offers a quiet space to reflect, connect with nature, and celebrate fresh beginnings. Starting at the VCPA Learning Garden, we will hike to a scenic overlook to watch the sunrise.

Drawing inspiration from their recent travels in Japan, Yoshiko and Noel will share cultural insights into Hatsuhinode and facilitate a simple, guided moment of connection to welcome the new year.

After the sun greets us, we will take an optional extended walk along the Cass Gallagher trail to soak in the fresh morning air and the hope of the year ahead.
