Hatsuhinode (初日の出): New Year’s Day Sunrise Hike and Meditation
January 1, 2025 @ 6:30 am - 8:30 am EST
Start 2025 with intention and tranquility. Join us on January 1st for a peaceful sunrise hike in Van Cortlandt Park. Let nature inspire you.
Begin the New Year with a moment of beauty and connection. Join us for Hatsuhinode—the Japanese tradition of welcoming the first sunrise—on a peaceful hike through Van Cortlandt Park.
Led by Yoshiko Mori and Noel Hefele, this event offers space to reflect, connect with nature, and celebrate fresh beginnings. Starting at VCPA’s Garden, we’ll hike to a scenic overlook to watch the sunrise. Yoshiko will share insights about the cultural meaning of Hatsuhinode, and together we’ll embrace the day’s first light as it transforms the park and paints the horizon.
Afterward, enjoy an optional walk along the Cass Gallagher trail, soaking in the fresh morning air and the hope of the year ahead.
