Village Community Boathouse is bringing their rowboats back to Van Cortlandt Lake this summer. Rowboats will be available on a first come, first served basis to row around the lake for free. All that participate must sign a waiver. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Enter the Park at Bailey Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park South.
Tuesdays July 10th-August 21st from 10am to 1pm
Help care for our vegetable beds (where all of our produce will be donated to local food pantries), and compost bins. Bring water and sunscreen. Held at our Garden & Compost Site- enter the park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.
Pollinator Garden Day
Tuesday July 17th from 10am to 1pm
Lets show pollinators some love by enhancing the pollinator garden areas in the Friends garden. Learn what goes into a pollinator garden, learn about bees and taste some honey. Held at our Garden & Compost Site- enter the park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue. Special thank you to NEEF for supporting this event.
Youth Run Farm Stand
Wednesdays from 2 to 7pm from July 11th- October 31st
Our Garden 2 Market interns will have fresh local produce for sale at affordable prices at this weekly market. We also carry local honey, maple syrup and Bronx Hot Sauce. We accept Cash, EBT/Credit/Debit, Healthbucks, FreshConnect Bucks, WIC and FMNP checks. Located at the Train Park at Orloff Ave. and Gale Place.
Exploring Local Forest Ecosystems Teacher Workshop Series
Monday August 20th to Thursday August 23rd
The Friends are partnering with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to offer a hands-on, interactive course that will put local environmental resources at participants’ fingertips. Participants will review content knowledge, model activities they can bring back to their classrooms (all aligned to NYC S&S), learn from guest speakers from local NYC environmental organizations, and explore environmental-focused websites. Participants will receive 3 books of lesson plans that are correlated to standards including Project WILD, Flying WILD, Project Learning Tree. Teachers can sign up for the entire workshop series through ASPDP to receive 2 credits (use this link to pay Education Partner Fee of $100) or register here for any of the individual workshops (no credits).
