Bimonthly Wednesdays meeting at 9am
Come learn about the health of Tibbetts Brook and Van Cortlandt Lake while assisting in gathering data. Open to adults, 18 and over only. Please contact John at john@vancortlandt.org to learn more.

Teen Garden Crew
Tuesdays April 16th- June 4th from 4-6 pm

Spring is here and our garden needs some work to get it ready for the growing season. All high school students looking for community service can come be a part of our Teen Garden Crew this spring. Come for one day or come to all, and help sift compost, plants seedlings and start our season off right. Meet at the Friends Garden/Compost site, enter the park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.

Natural History Hikes
Wednesdays  May 15th and June 12th from 6pm to 8pm
Join Friends’ Field Scientist and Research Coordinator, Alex, for a hike while discussing topics ranging from the ecology of organisms to whole ecosystems using Van Cortlandt Park as our laboratory. Local scientists will join as guest presenters.
May 15th Hike will focus on Geochemistry and Community Ecology of Park Soils. Meet in front of the Van Cortlandt Golf House- enter the Park at Van Cortlandt Park South and Bailey Avenue.

Beyond the Brook: Getting to Know Tibbetts
Saturday May 18th meeting at 10am
Over the past three years, the Friends’ have been conducting research and completing stewardship projects to reclaim the Tibbetts Watershed in Van Cortlandt Park.  Get to know Tibbetts Brook, Van Cortlandt Lake and the Wetlands better during this behind the scenes tour with four mini hands-on “workshops” on Wetland Restoration, Daylighting Tibbetts Brook, Macroinvertebrate Studies and Water Quality Monitoring.  Pre-registration required.

Spring Wetland Volunteer Days
Saturdays May 25th and June 22nd from 10am to 1pm
Did you know there are only 97 acres of freshwater wetlands left in the Bronx and 56 of them are in Van Cortlandt Park? Volunteers will help with native species planting, removal of non-native invasive plants and trash clean up within Tibbetts Wetlands. Meet in front of the Nature Center, enter the Park at Broadway and W. 246th Street.

Woodlawn Beautification Day
Saturday June 1st from 10:30am to 1pm
Join the Friends and the Women of Woodlawn as we continue our efforts to beautify the area around Woodlawn Playground. Meet at Van Cortlandt Park East, just south of Kepler Avenue.

Volunteer Trails Restoration Crew
Saturday June 1st from 10am to 3pm
Crew Members will work alongside trails professionals, developing skills in various areas of trail construction while improving the trails in Van Cortlandt Park.  Projects include building boardwalks, clearing waterbars and drainage swells and installing drainage dips.  No prior trails experience is necessary; all training will be offered in an on-the-job format.  Interested? Forest/Canopy Gap Volunteer Day
Saturday June 8th from 10am to 1pm
The Friends are partnering with the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy (VCPC) with the support of a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Urban and Community Forestry Grant to complete forest restoration projects to close canopy gaps in Van Cortlandt Park forests.  Meet at the Garden & Compost Site – enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.

W. 261st Entrance Beautification Days
Saturday June 8th from 10am to 12pm
Volunteers are needed as we continue to work to improve the entrance to Van Cortlandt Park near W. 261st Street.  Projects will include weeding and watering the new garden, cleaning up the field and forest restoration projects along the edge of the Northwest Woods of Van Cortlandt Park.  Meet in the small field near W. 261st and Broadway.

New Beginnings Picnic
Tuesday June 11th 
Join us on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 as we celebrate the launch of our new organization- the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance- at the New Beginnings Picnic before the New York Philharmonic Concert. 

Attendees will enjoy drinks, dinner and dessert under a well-appointed tent, on the lawn of the Van Cortlandt House Museum starting at 6:30pm. We will be holding a special tour of the House Museum starting at 6pm for our Patron guests. After dinner, guests will enjoy VIP seating at the New York Philharmonic Concert on the Parade Grounds of Van Cortlandt Park.
