Wetland Wednesdays
December 3 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

Join Van Cortlandt Park Alliance for Wetland Wednesdays — a hands-on, year-round conservation effort supporting one of NYC’s most vital ecosystems.
During summer, we focus on removing water chestnut (Trapa natans) — an aggressive aquatic invasive plant overtaking parts of Van Cortlandt Lake. With your help, we’ll clear patches of open water to improve biodiversity, protect fish and turtle habitat, and restore ecological balance.
🛠️ What to Expect:
- Seasonal Focus: Summer tasks center on removing water chestnut from the lake using hand tools and teamwork from shore or shallow areas.
- Hands-On Involvement: Be ready to get wet or muddy — this is real, immersive restoration work!
- All Equipment Provided: Waders, gloves, and tools are supplied. Staff will guide you through everything.
