Join us for Woodlawn Wednesdays\, where volunteers like you play a vital role in preserving this important urban ecosystem. \nYou might: \nRemove Invasive Species: Tackle harmful plants like multiflora rose\, bush honeysuckle\, bittersweet\, and Japanese angelica tree that threaten our native biodiversity. \nMaintain Trails: Keep paths clear\, safe\, and welcoming for all park visitors. \nNo experience needed! We provide all tools and gloves. You’ll also learn about forest ecology\, plant ID\, and restoration techniques. \nRSVP Now. \nWhen: \nWednesday November 5\, 2025 meeting at 9am and Wednesdays December 10 and 17 meeting at 10am \nWhere: \nMeet outside the handball courts at Woodlawn Playground \n(Located on the east side of Van Cortlandt Park) \nWhat to Bring: \nLong sleeves\, long pants (denim or canvas recommended)\, and a hat \nSturdy\, closed-toe shoes \nWater bottle and snacks \nSunscreen and bug spray (recommended) \nYour enthusiasm for conservation! \nGroups of 6 or more must email noel@vancortlandt.org to discuss scheduling their own event. \nVolunteer Policy for Minors \n• Ages 15 – 17 \nA parent or guardian must sign and submit a volunteer waiver. Once the waiver is on file\, the minor may participate without an accompanying adult. \n• Ages 12 – 14 \nA parent or guardian must accompany the minor and remain on-site for the entire project. \n• Under 12 \nChildren may volunteer only at events specifically labeled family-friendly and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

DESCRIPTION:Let your creativity run wild while helping your favorite park! \nAfter a short hike in the park to pull and collect invasive vines\, you’ll mold the twisted woody vine into a wreath; ready to decorate with a mix of festive natural and artificial materials. This DIY workshop is perfect for environmental enthusiasts\, craft-lovers\, and anyone who wants to spread festive cheer! \nEveryone will get to go home with their own unique holiday wreath. \nNo prior experience or knowledge required. \nWorkshop takes place outside\, please dress for the weather. \nAll supplies (including hot cocoa and cookies!) will be provided…you provide the creativity! \nTickets purchased in advance required. Tickets will be on sale soon! \nEvent Details:\n\nDate: Saturday\, December 13th\nTime: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm\nRaindate: Sunday\, December 21st\nMeeting Location: Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course\n\nTickets:\nPlease purchase 1 ticket for every person attending. Each person will take home a wreath. Space is limited and tickets are required. Ticket price includes materials fee. \n\nGeneral Admission (age 17+): $25\nJunior Admission (age 10 -16): $15\nJunior Admission ticket holders must be accompanied by an adult with a GA ticket.\n\nClick here to purchase tickets.  Sales close 12/12/25 at 11am. \nRaindate and Cancellation Policy:\n\nTicket sales will not be refunded and will be considered a donation to Van Cortlandt Park Alliance if you cannot attend the workshop on December 13th.
