DESCRIPTION:Van Cortlandt Park Alliance presents a conversation with Kamau Ware and Nicole Taylor. Supported by Bronx Council on the Arts. \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin a dialogue between friends\, Kamau Ware and Nicole Taylor\, that highlights the ways Black people make space to affirm themselves during troubling times. This reflective conversation titled\, “Stealing Joy: Finding Resilience in Black Holiday Traditions”\, will cover history and recipes of the African American experience. \n\n\nThis project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature\, and administered by the Bronx Council on the Arts. \nPre-registration is required to receive a link to Zoom presentation. \nKamau Ware is an artist / historian\, and the principal of Kamau Studios\, a visual storytelling studio based in New York City’s Seaport District. Ware is also the founder of Black Gotham Experience\, an immersive multimedia project founded in 2010 that reimagines the African Diaspora as one unified epic through a series of experiences including walks\, talks\, media\, and events. \nNicole A. Taylor is a food writer based in Brooklyn\, New York. She has written for Food & Wine\, Esquire\, and the New York Times. SUMMARY:End of Season Garden Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:As the weather gets colder\, volunteers are needed to help us put the finishing touches on closing the garden for the season.  Work to harvest any remaining produce for donation to the Friendly Fridge\, remove the last of the plants from the vegetable beds and collect seeds for us to plant next year. Chop weeds\, rake leaves\, sift finished compost and then re-fill our compost bins to ensure we have plenty of compost for next season. Volunteers must wear a mask or face covering and practice social distancing while volunteering. VCPA will provide clean gloves and tools.  Advance registration is required.
