DESCRIPTION:Help restore the beautiful woodlands of Van Cortlandt Park’s east side with VCPA and Women of Woodlawn by closing a desire line! \nWhat is a Desire line? \nA desire line or social trail is an unauthorized trail that has been opened by repeated communal use and usually shortcuts the authorized trail path.  The closure of unauthorized trails fits into both the purview of the trail stewardship and forest restoration programs in Van Cortlandt Park. It is vital to prevent compaction and ecosystem fragmentation. Desire lines can often be coupled with litter and dumping of trash. \nWhen: \nSaturday October 25th\, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM \n(Please arrive on time – we depart for the worksite by 9:15 AM) \nWhere: \nMeet outside the handball courts at Woodlawn Playground \nMeet by the big tree outside the handball courts \n(Located on the east side of Van Cortlandt Park) \nWhat to Bring: \nLong sleeves\, long pants (denim or canvas recommended)\, and a hat \nSturdy\, closed-toe shoes \nWater bottle and snacks \nSunscreen and bug spray (recommended) \nYour enthusiasm for conservation! \nSpace is limited. DESCRIPTION:Pitch in for NYC Parks Day at Van Cortlandt Park \nVan Cortlandt Park is one of New York City’s largest and most ecologically rich parks\, and keeping it clean takes community effort. \nJoin Van Cortlandt Park Alliance for our annual Pitch in for NYC Parks Day event\, a morning of hands-on park stewardship near Caryl Field along the park’s northern edge by the Yonkers border. Volunteers will collect litter and debris from park paths\, natural areas\, and surrounding green spaces\, making a direct and visible difference in the park. \nNo experience is required. Gloves\, bags\, and all equipment will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Turnip to volunteer and help us take care of our Learning Garden! \nVolunteers will help care for our garden\, maintain compost bins\, weed\, water\, and harvest produce. \nNo gardening experience needed – just show up in clothing you will be comfortable getting dirty in! \nLocation: The VCPA Learning Garden is located near the Mosholu Avenue and Broadway entrance of the park (past the Northwest playground). \nHeld on the following Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm: \n\nApril 14\nApril 28\nMay 26\nJune 9\nJune 23\n\nVolunteers must be 18 and older. \nRSVP Now. \nGroups of 5+ must register as a unit via email to gardening@vancortlandt.org.
