The Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park

Van Cortlandt Lake is one of the Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY.

Van Cortlandt Lake is one of the Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park.

The John Muir Nature Trail was selected for several reasons, including that it is the only east to west trail in the Park, the Friends helped to create it and it had recently been beautifully restored with the addition of stone steps.

Park users were able to determine the remaining six wonders. Seven Wonders attendees had the chance to cast their votes and online voting was open for almost two weeks. The Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park (in no particular order) are:

1.) John Muir Nature Trail
2.) Van Cortlandt Lake
3.) Van Cortlandt House Museum
4.) Putnam Trail
5.) Vault Hill
6.) Croton Aqueduct Trail
7.) Tibbetts Brook Wetland

Each spring, the Friends host a Seven Wonders event to highlight one of the wonders. To date, we have highlighted the John Muir Nature Trail, Van Cortlandt House Museum, and Vault Hill. On Thursday June 12th from 6:30 to 8:30pm on the deck of the Golf House, we will be holding our 4th Seven Wonders event where we will be focusing on Van Cortlandt Lake. If you are interested in attending please RSVP by Monday June 9th.

In addition, to our events we also hold Seven Wonders hikes which visits all the wonders each spring and fall. Our next hike is scheduled for Saturday June 14th and will meet at 10am in the Park at 242nd and Broadway near the last stop of the 1 train.

We do hope that everyone gets a chance to visit all of the Seven Wonders and more of Van Cortlandt Park.
