Last April, Tina Walsh joined the Friends as our new Part-time Program Assistant. While at the Friends, Tina assisted in running our educational and volunteer programs and coordinate our school year Environmental Internship which is currently in progress and spearheaded our new Summer Teen Trails Crew Internship last July and August. Tina will be leaving the Friends shortly for a full-time position in Environmental Education in Manhattan. We here at the Friends will greatly miss her but wish her the best of luck in her new role and look forward to possible future collaborations. Now, our small staff has been decreased and we need to find a new person to assist with our educational and volunteer programs.
The Friends of Van Cortlandt Park are seeking a Seasonal, Part-Time Program Assistant to assist with the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park’s educational and volunteer programs. The Program Assistant will be responsible for teaching outdoor environmental education programs to children. The Program Assistant’s goals are to encourage students’ awareness and appreciation of the environment, broaden students’ knowledge of science concepts, and foster students’ commitment to the protection of the natural environment. During the school year, the Program Assistant will lead school groups K-12 that attend the Friends’ Van Cortlandt Adventures Programs and Forest Restoration Volunteer Programs for children and adults. During the summer, they will supervise high school interns participating in an 8 week Trail Crew internship program alongside the Trails Manager.
Interested candidates should apply by March 7th, 2014. We are hopeful that we will have our new Program Assistant in place and ready to go in April- just in time for our busy spring season.
