Bimonthly Wednesdays meeting at 9am

Food Scrap Drop-Off
Tuesdays April 4th to May 30th from 4pm to 6pm
We want to use your food scraps to make compost and grow veggies at the Van Cortlandt Park Garden and Compost Site. This site will be operated by the NYC Compost Project hosted by The New York Botanical Garden. For more information about NYC food scrap drop-off site guidelines, e-mail compost(at)nybg.org.
Held at the Garden & Compost Site – enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.

Get Active Hiking Series
Second Saturday of Each Month at 10am
Van Cortlandt Park Where NYC HikesCome see why VCP is Where NYC Hikes!  FVCP tour guides will be leading you on a hike through some of the 20 plus miles of hiking trails in Van Cortlandt Park.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the ecology and the history of the Park. Please wear appropriate shoes and bring plenty of water and a snack for the hike.

June 10th, meet at the intersection of Broadway and W. 242nd Street on the Park side(near the last stop of the 1 train): Our longest hike, a 3 hour tour to see all Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park.                     

Mycoremediation and Fungi Cultivation Workshops
Three Remaining Workshop Dates
Want to learn how to cultivate your own gourmet mushrooms? Intrigued by the amazing abilities fungi mycelium can provide to remove pollutants from our soils and water? FVCP is embarking on two projects within Van Cortlandt Park using fungi mycelium to remove pollutants from the soil and water and we would like to pass along the knowledge to you. Join us for a 3 hour course on growing mushrooms and their abilities to remediate our soils and waters. Please contact John at john@vancortlandt.org to register for a workshop. Space is limited to 15 people per workshop.

Trail Building Workshops

Learn different trail building techniques to improve the amazing hiking trails of VCP. Volunteers must be 18 and older for the Trail Building Workshops.  Please contact John at john@vancortlandt.org to register.

Woodlawn Clean Up Day

Join us and Women of Woodlawn for hands-on service projects to improve the Northeast Corner of Van Cortlandt Park around Woodlawn Playground.

Meet in front of Woodlawn Playground on Van Cortlandt Park East just south of Oneida Avenue.

Wetland Volunteer Day
Saturday June 17th meeting at 10am
Did you know there are only 98 acres of freshwater wetlands left in the Bronx and 56 of them are in Van Cortlandt Park? Volunteers will help with native species planting, removal of non-native invasive plants and trash clean up within Tibbetts Wetlands.

Rowboating on VC Lake
Fridays June 23rd to September 1st from 4:30pm to 7:30pm
Village Community Boathouse will provide FREE rowing in their fleet of traditional wooden rowboats.  Children under 18 years old need a parent present to sign waiver.  Enter the park at Van Cortlandt Park South & Bailey Ave. Meet near the Lake.

Our events are open to the general public. RSVP’s are encouraged for individuals or small groups. Space is limited so we ask that groups contact us at least 2 weeks in advance to schedule.
