Tibbetts Brook Water Monitoring
Bimonthly Wednesdays meeting at 9am Come learn about the health of Tibbetts Brook and Van Cortlandt Lake while assisting in gathering data. Open to adults, 18 and over only. Please contact John at john(at)vancortlandt.org to learn more and sign up.

John Muir Trail Clean Up Day
Saturday April 1st meeting at 10am
The John Muir Trail could use a little TLC. Join us for a walk along the trail as we collect garbage and clean up the trail for the spring. Meet at the Garden & Compost Site- enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.

Food Scrap Drop-Off
Tuesdays starting April 5th from 4pm to 6pm
We want to use your food scraps to make compost and grow veggies at the Van Cortlandt Park Garden and Compost Site. This site will be operated by the NYC Compost Project hosted by The New York Botanical Garden. For more information about NYC food scrap drop-off site guidelines, e-mail compost(at)nybg.org. Held at the Garden & Compost Site – enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.

Get Active Hiking Series in VCP
Join us on the Second Saturday of Each Month for a hike in Van Cortlandt Park. This is a great opportunity to learn about the ecology and the history of the Park. Please wear appropriate shoes and bring plenty of water and a snack for the hike.
April 8th at 10am, meet at the last stop of the 1 train (near Broadway and W. 242nd Street): Tibbetts Wetland Tour led by our Wetland Internship for a Healthier Bronx Interns.
May 13th at 10am, meet at the Garden & Compost Site (enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave): 25th Anniversary Hike led by our Executive Director highlighting what the Friends have accomplished over the years and what future plans include.
June 10th at 10am, meet at the last stop of the 1 train (near Broadway and W. 242nd Street): Our longest hike, a 3 hour tour to see all Seven Wonders of Van Cortlandt Park.

Earth Day Volunteer Event
Saturday April 22nd meeting at 10am
Join us on Earth Day to volunteer for one of two projects in Van Cortlandt Park.
Garden & Compost Site Prep for Planting Season: meet at the Garden & Compost Site- enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.
Trail Restoration Project: meet at the last stop of the 1 train (near Broadway and W. 242nd Street)

Trail Building Workshops
Saturdays May 6 and June 3 meeting at 10am
Learn different trail building techniques to improve the amazing hiking trails of VCP. Please contact John at john(at)vancortlandt.org to register. Meet at the last stop of the 1 train (near Broadway and W. 242nd Street).

It’s My Parks Day/ Spring Garden Planting Day
Saturday May 13th meeting at 10am
Join us as we prepare and plant our 800 plus square feet of vegetable garden beds for the 2017 growing season. Volunteers are needed to prepare the beds, sift our compost bins and help plant seedlings. Meet at the Garden & Compost Site – enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.

Wetland Volunteer Days
Saturday May 20th and June 17th meeting at 10am
Did you know there are only 98 acres of freshwater wetlands left in the Bronx and 56 of them are in Van Cortlandt Park? Volunteers will help with native species planting, removal of non-native invasive plants and trash clean up within Tibbetts Wetlands. Meet inside the park near the last stop of the 1 train at Broadway and W. 242nd Street.

Picnic Supper & Concert in the Park
Tuesday June 13th starting at 6pm
The Van Cortlandt Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York with the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park presents A Picnic Supper & Concert in Van Cortlandt Park with the New York Philharmonic. More information on tickets will be posted by the end of March.

Our events are open to the general public. RSVP’s are encouraged for individuals or small groups.   Please contact Sara Kempton at 718-601-1553 or sara@vancortlandt.org to register for volunteer events or to schedule your own date.   Space is limited so we ask that groups contact us at least 2 weeks in advance to schedule.
