Bimonthly Wednesdays meeting at 9am

Village Community Boathouse is bringing their rowboats back to Van Cortlandt Lake this summer. Rowboats will be available on a first come, first served basis to row around the lake for free. All that participate must sign a waiver. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Enter the Park at Bailey Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park South.
Tuesdays July 10th-August 21st from 10am to 1pm
Help care for our vegetable beds (where all of our produce will be donated to local food pantries), and compost bins. Bring water and sunscreen. Held at our Garden & Compost Site- enter the park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.
Youth Run Farm Stand
Wednesdays from 2 to 7pm from July 11th- October 31st
Our Garden 2 Market interns will have fresh local produce for sale at affordable prices at this weekly market. We also carry local honey, maple syrup and Bronx Hot Sauce. We accept Cash, EBT/Credit/Debit, Healthbucks, FreshConnect Bucks, WIC and FMNP checks. Located at the Train Park at Orloff Ave. and Gale Place.
Freshwater Biodiversity Workshop: The Application of Biodiversity to Water Quality
Saturday August 25th from 10am to 1pm
The workshop will be based on freshwater biodiversity where we will be both sampling BMI in the lake and also teaching the basics of identification . For anyone interested in adding a biological component to water quality monitoring, this is an opportunity to learn how to use invertebrates as proxies for pollution, eutrophication and disturbance. Meet in front of the Van Cortlandt Golf House- enter the Park at Van Cortlandt Park South and Bailey Avenue.
First Saturdays from 10am to 3pm
Crew Members will work alongside trails professionals, developing skills in various areas of trail construction while improving the various trails in Van Cortlandt Park. Projects include building boardwalks, clearing waterbars and drainage swells and installing drainage dips. No prior trails experience is necessary; all training will be offered in an on-the-job format. Interested? Contact email@example.com for more information. Must be 18 years of age to join.
Forestry/Canopy Gap Volunteer Events
Second Saturdays from September to November from 10am to 1pm
The Friends are partnering with the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy in 2018 with the support of a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Urban and Community Forestry Grant to complete forest restoration projects to close canopy gaps in Van Cortlandt Park forests. Woodlawn Beautification Volunteer Days

Join the Friends and the Women of Woodlawn as we continue our efforts to beautify the area around Woodlawn Playground. Meet at Van Cortlandt Park East, just south of Kepler Avenue.
Saturday September 29th from 2pm to 7pm
Hike, Eat, Drink & Celebrate with Friends during our fun fundraiser for the hiking trails of Van Cortlandt Park. Come see why VCP is Where NYC Hikes. Hike starts at 2pm and attendees will participate in a 4-5 mile hike or a 2 mile leisurely hike. Oktoberfest is from 4pm-7pm where there will be German food by Loreley Restaurant & Biergarten, beer and fun yard games! Tickets, including Early Bird Discounts through the end of August, are on sale now. Sponsorship Opportunities are Available.
Fall Wetland Volunteer Days
Saturdays October 20th and November 3rd meeting at 10am
Did you know there are only 98 acres of freshwater wetlands left in the Bronx and 56 of them are in Van Cortlandt Park? Volunteers will help with native species planting, removal of non-native invasive plants and trash clean up within Tibbetts Wetlands. Meet inside the park near the last stop of the 1 train at Broadway and W. 242nd Street.
Get Active Hiking Series in VCP
Please wear appropriate shoes and bring plenty of water and a snack for the hike. All hikes meet at 10am.
October 27th, Tibbetts Wetland Tour: meet inside the park near the last stop of the 1 train at Broadway and W. 242nd Street.
November 17th, Seven Wonders of VCP Tour: meet at FVCP Compost Site- enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.
Family Harvest Day
Saturday November 3rd from 10am to 1pm
Come dig through our compost bins, try a new veggie, clear our planting beds for the winter and participate in some gardening activities with your kids. Good for the whole family ages 5 and up. (smaller kids need adult supervision). Held at Friends’ Garden and Compost Site- enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Avenue.
